PS the Liard black-coated brass weather cap is the best I've found. These days I basically run a weather cap unless I'm on a road trip. It also jams into the roof of my carport every time I open the trunk, so I have to bend it forward with one hand while opening the trunk with the other. My CB27 thwacks my roof every time I open the trunk. The LIARD CB27 is a GREAT antenna, but it's basically the ONLY viable option on 3/4 NMO. Hey Fox, here's my take having lived with this install for a while.ĬB whip options for NMO mounts are very limited. The scanner I will be getting is a Uniden BCD436HP. My CB is a Cobra 29LX, which I managed to get down to a 1.1 SWR on Ch19 with the Little Wil. I would then ideally want the scanner antenna in line directly behind the CB for the sake of symmetry, leaving an inch or two between the outside of the antenna bases.ġ) Is there a minimum distance required between antennas in this case?Ģ) Should I expect any interference with this placement? (Reduced scanner reception, bad SWR on the CB, etc.)ģ) Are there alternate or better antennas I should consider?Ĥ) Is there a better source than TheAntennaFarm for radio accessories like these?
This will leave one obvious place to put an NMO mount for the CB since there is already a hole there, I don't know yet if I'll need to cut it any bigger or not (I planned to use 3/8" NMOs unless the hole is huge). I have been wanting to get rid of it anyway since it causes constant X band falses, and I never listen to XM radio. My car came with a pre-installed satellite radio antenna in the center of the trunk lid, as shown here: When I add a scanner I would also like to use an NMO mounted antenna for it, probably a Laird ABSCANC tri-band. I like what notblake did with an NMO mounted Laird CB27, I was thinking of going the same route. I have been using a CB radio for a while now with a Little Wil magnet-mount antenna, but I think it's time to look into a more permanent installation.
